4. Batch Management System (BMS / Batching)

The BMS manages recipes and tracks batches across the entire supply chain, ISA-88 compliant. Essential for the process industry and perishable goods (food & beverage, chemicals).

Core functionality

  • Batch technology configuration – defines new technology templates on an abstract layer based on action templates (ISA-88 compliant), and safeguards the integrity of product formulas, recipe definitions, processes and procedures on a single platform.
  • Silo & tank configuration – part of the WMS inventory overview; defines tank and silo farms including routing constraints and dynamic routing control, with real-time monitoring of capacity levels.
  • Batching execution – monitors, controls and records all batch processing steps through real-time batching dashboards, with both automated and manual procedures in one guided workflow.
  • Advanced integrations – integrated with QMS and APS, takes capacity constraints into account, schedules silo and tank usage, and defines complex Track & Trace based on Alpha-Beta distribution per product and tank type.
  • Operator guidance – step-by-step UI for batch execution and real-time progress tracking in Momentum Supervisor, including cleaning-in-place (CIP) procedures.
  • Real-time feedback – automatic triggers and alerts, proactive control of manual procedures based on batch progress and real-time quality results.

5. Advanced Production Scheduling (APS)

The APS module optimises production planning by taking inventory, production time, delivery deadlines, staff, skills and machine capacity into account – flexibly and partly automated.

Core functionality

  • Configuration constraints – links plant layout, product structure, processes and all master data to the scheduling engine, with adjustable weights per optimisation criterion and feasibility test results.
  • Shop floor HR – assigns work skills to individual employees, defines work centre parameters for manning requirements and reserves employees for customer orders.
  • Digital twin – analyses and optimises production virtually before actual execution, plans for the long term based on virtual twin simulations and compares alternative schedules and routings.
  • Automated optimization – directs and coordinates production execution, takes changeover times and maintenance into account, triggers just-in-time logistics movements and enables semi-autonomous ("lights-out") plants.
  • Scheduling board – splits every planned order into its relevant operations, automatically links operations to the correct work centres, and allows semi-manual adjustments via a visual planning board.
  • Real-time rescheduling – compares real-time operations with the planned operations, automatically adjusts the schedule based on the original constraints, and generates real-time data on potential bottlenecks with alerts.

Result: less waste, higher output and continuous improvement thanks to real-time planning boards and scenario simulation.


6. Quality Management System (QMS)

The QMS supports quality control, guarantees compliance and secures continuous improvement throughout the entire production process.

Core functionality

  • Quality test execution – manages, directs and monitors the execution of quality test planning, pushes both planned and unplanned quality tests to the shop floor, and determines in real time the further processing route of lots based on test results.
  • Track & Trace – records material consumption and traces the origin of all materials, with full lifecycle information per production lot: operations performed, machines used, raw materials consumed and inventory movements.
  • Audit trail – compliant with 21 CFR Part 11 and other regulations, full traceability of materials and production processes down to the smallest production lot, with detailed reports for audits.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) – sets process parameter targets for automated or manual measurements, and generates detailed reporting for root cause analysis and Total Quality Management (TQM).
  • Quality (reaction) plans – defines the test specifications of a product or process, configures the process and timing of quality tests, and triggers alerts or automated actions based on test results.
  • Digital signature – flags operations that require additional validation through re-login or supervisor approval, with fast certified validation on the shop floor, complementary to shop floor HR and role management.

Result: higher customer satisfaction, risk control and better efficiency, with a full audit trail and compliance support (21 CFR Part 11, ISA-88, SPC).
