Opening session - Building intuitive AI for smart & connected industries
Prof. Steven Latré
| Universiteit Antwerpen - Imec
Artificial Intelligence has the potential to disrupt many industrial sectors. With the emergence of Internet of Things, we are generating large information streams. However, the question becomes: how can we interpret these streams and how can we translate this information into actionable and even automated control? In this opening lecture, we will give you an overview of the current state of the art of AI in industrial settings and will give you a glimpse of what you can expect from industrial AI in the near future
11:10 - 11:40

Demystifying Digital Twins
Dr. Michael Rademaker
| IDLab - Imec
Digital twins – what are they? How do they fit in to my business, and how do I get started with them? Digital Twins are a hot topic these days, with applications as diverse as city planning to personalized medicine. But what is the underlying idea? What do you need to get started on a digital twin, and how do you keep it manageable for your purpose? Can you do them small-scale? Find out more in this expert class, drawing on past projects from the imec IDLab portfolio.

5G in Port of Zeebrugge: Puzzle piece of a green and safe port
Peter Merlevede
| Port of Zeebrugge
As a pioneer in the field, the Port of Zeebrugge has invested in a 5G private LTE network in late 2019. Our goal is to continue to act as a green, safe and future-proof port. The network allows us to handle larger data flows, and 5G also brings many new business opportunities to the port. As such, the 5G network is becoming a real accelerator in and around the Port of Zeebrugge.
15:40 - 16:10
The human centric approach in a digital journey
Raf Swinnen
| Danone
Get an insight in Danone’s digital flagship and understand how a conscious strategy across various functions is enabling a step change in manufacturing results. The harmony between smart automation and integrated business processes, equips a connected shopfloor with new data insights and analytics. Add a mix of technology and operational excellence to these data and create a culture of scalable individual development, innovation and performance.

Better, Faster, Stronger: Improving the OEE of complex industrial equipment with AI
Stefan Peerenbooms
| Tenneco
Tenneco produces car components on advanced automated assembly lines. By analysing the PLC signals alone, using AI-powered data analytics tools, early signs of future technical issues and upcoming throughput bottlenecks can automatically be detected before it's too late. With better, more detailed, analytics of the line functioning, data-drive decision-making improves the operations and maintenance of the equipment. Tenneco can ensure higher equipment availability and more consistent asset performance. With the presenation, Tenneco wants to share ‘lessons learned’ from this ML based project.
11:10 - 11:40
Optimizing your production and assembly environment based on data driven business decisions
Sofie Burggraeve
| Flanders Make
Production environments are often managed based on experience. However, data on machine execution and setup times, minimal order quantities, lead times and operator characteristics etc. can give you deeper insights, enabling you to make better business decisions. During this talk, you will learn from two success stories Flanders Make realized working with manufacturing companies, how these data can provide you with a solid basis for improving your production and assembly environment.
11:45 - 12:15
Turning process complexity into a competitive advantage
David Provoost
| Avercon
Our daily task at Avercon is to put “Your concept into production”. We focus on creating machines which perfectly fit your personalized production needs. But production is becoming more complex due to smaller batches, higher speed demands, higher quality demands, higher sustainability demands… How can you comply to all of these challenges combined? By adding more intelligence into your overall workflow, by adding intelligent machines to your production lines, by using your production data more extensively. We’d love to tell you more about some of our SMART solutions for packaging, which where only made possible by the extensive use of a Digital Twin for which we will show different inspiring successful projects (f.e. at Vandemoortele, Packsize ,…) But we’ll also give you a glance on how we continuously expand our service models by means of centrally managed fleet management powered by industrial edge.
14:00 - 14:30
How do you best build the bridge over the digital divide between administration and production?
Johannes Cottyn
The step towards production support software can be challenging, especially if you (quite rightly) expect it to offer the same level of flexibility as that offered by your production environment. A Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a software solution designed to optimise the efficiency and transparency of a manufacturing process. Typical features include: scheduling, tracking & tracing, production reporting, electronic work instructions, knowledge management, materials and tasks registration, automatic data collection, etc. Current modular, scalable and flexible production software modules make it easier than ever for companies to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0. This presentation will delve into the state-of-the art, best practices and guidelines to help you bridge the digital divide between administration and production, drawing on the experiences and insights of the Industry 4.0 living lab MES4SME.

Digital transformation journey
Frédéric Anthone
| SPG Dry Cooling
success story of redefining power plant performance SPG Dry Cooling developed, in cooperation with The Grain, their ACC360®, a ground-breaking cloud-based advanced analytics solution that guarantees the highest availability and efficiency of the Air Cooled Condenser and steam cycle in power plants.
15:40 - 16:10
Managing data in the smart factory
Serge Audenaert
| Agoria
In a Smart Factory, the data are at the heart of everything. They are, in a sense, the fuel for all the processes involved in it. These data are used by all the people working in the organisation, as well as by external business partners. They are the foundation of automation, and their volume is constantly increasing. But who is ultimately responsible for them within the organisation? And how can we keep a good overview of these data in order to get the most out of them? This presentation will focus on the key aspects of data management in Smart Factories, ranging from best practices to new trends, illustrated with real-life examples.

Cyberdefense is doable, how to achieve secure industrial control systems
Hendrik Derre & Tijl Deneut
| IC4 - Howest
While it sometimes seems like the decks are stacked against us when talking about industrial cyber security, effective ICS cyberdefense is not only feasible but actually doable. This talk will cover a methodological approach to securing our industrial systems combined with practical tips and tricks learned from real incidents. There is no easy solution, but defense can, and should, have the advantage over offense.
13:30 - 14:00
IIOT Security in Domestic Robotics
Hans Ameel
| Howest
The world of robotics is ever evolving and ever present, both in companies as in domestic environments. It is playing an increasingly larger role in the Industrial Internet of Things scene. Professor Hans Ameel will guide us with stories and practical takeaways on how these devices can be used in a security scene unbeknownst to the industry at hand.

The right Network Monitoring Tool for the industrial job
Tijl Atoui & Tinus Umans
| Howest & Ugent
Which network monitoring tool increases the cyber security of your industrial network? That is the research question IC4 wanted to tackle during its living lab project. Starting from a longlist of more than 200 tools, the most relevant ones were researched in further detail and stress-tested on a near-real industrial network with typical network traffic, simulated network issues and attacks. In this presentation a comparison is shared covering important criteria as performance, cost, user friendliness, etc. and providing lessons learned and guidelines for a good selection and proper use of these tools. The presentation is supported by live demonstrations on a representative demonstration setup.
